Every once in a while a dormant meme resurfaces. Think: the eternal Rick Roll or the weirdly ever-present Bee Movie.
A somewhat old meme and trend returned this week: Reddit's Florida man birthday meme.
The trend has been copy-pasted numerous times, on numerous platforms over the years. But it all began back in 2019 with a post from Tumblr user gandalfsoda that read, "New fun personality game: search up 'Florida man' and your birthday and see what headline you get (year is not necessary)." Thus, the Florida man challenge was born.
From there it migrated to Twitter and elsewhere.

A post on the subreddit r/facepalm on Tuesday resurfaced the trend. It quickly shot up in popularity with comments like "Florida man dies in explosion while trying to microwave another microwave" and "Florida man threatens to destroy everyone with his army of turtles."
It's quite easy to do the meme — in fact, it's all there in the meme itself. All you have to do is go to Google, type "Florida man + [your birthday]" and see the results. For me, for instance, that would be: Florida man April 30. That would yield a headline like, "A Man In Florida Was Arrested For Kicking Swans In The Head. Witnesses Said He Was Laughing."
What's old is new, the Florida Man Challenge is back. It should be expected, Florida Man itself is an eternal meme.
