Liz Atkin has come up with a way to creatively cope with her skin picking disorder -- one charcoal drawing at a time.

The London-based artist suffers from "dermatillomania," a condition in which individuals habitually and excessively pick at their skin.

In order to keep her hands busy and behavior free, Atkin creates charcoal drawings on pages of newspaper during her train commutes and gives them away to other passengers.

Through her project, #CompulsiveCharcoal, Atkin has already shared over 10,000 pieces of art. Along with the drawings, she gives away fliers with information about her disorder and the transformative power of art.

"Getting to grips with it and finding a way to own it and change it into something positive has been extremely powerful," she said in an interview with Channel NewsAsia.

"Art is my tool for recovery. Art is what's got me better."
