Donald Trump hoped to deflate Hillary Clinton's campaign with the help of a few New England Patriots.
At a rally in New Hampshire on Monday night, the Republican presidential nominee claimed that both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick pledged their support for him.

"You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media and have come out beautifully," Bellichick apparently wrote.
More than a few people on Twitter expressed their doubt that Trump was reading a letter verbatim from four-time Super Bowl champion Bellichick.

Several media outlets, including CNN and the Boston Globe, reached out to Brady and Belichick's camps for confirmation and got no response.
Trump also claimed Brady called him on Monday and said, "Donald, I support you, you're my friend and I voted for you."
The problem? The Patriots quarterback was heard Monday morning saying that he had not voted yet and early voting ended Friday in Massachusetts.
Of course, Brady could have simply meant he was mailing in his absentee ballot.
Maybe someone could ask for his cellphone to settle the matter.
