“I think it was great!” he said. “She should say exactly what she feels. There is phenomenal work being done by female directors.”

Others (many of them – with gifs) thought the timing was magnificent. By using her time as presenter, Portman guaranteed that the next five shots in the Golden Globes telecast would be of five male directors responding to their privilege.。
“I have had projects where explicitly the studio has said, 'this is the limit of your budget because it’s a female character,'" Del Toro told IndieWire of Hollywood's pervasive sexism. "I still keep writing.”
